Lip packaging splits into four formats and each is really a decision about the applicator. A lipstick bullet is defined by its mechanism — the twist-up cup that holds the bullet, where 12.7mm is the industry-standard diameter, so a bullet made for one case fits another of the same size. Lip gloss and liquid lipstick are defined by what touches the lip: a doe-foot applicator picks up the most product and suits opaque liquid colour, a flocked wand gives thinner control for sheer gloss, and a slanted tip helps follow the lip line. Lip balm is either a push-up stick or a small jar, and the stick is chosen far more often because it avoids finger contact. Across all four, the seal matters more than buyers expect: lip formulas are oil-based and will weep at the closure if the fit is loose.
